Digital compilation of presentations given from April 23 to 25, 1999 during the event "El teatro mexicano ante la cultura de fin de siglo" (The Mexican Theater amid the Culture at the Turn of the Century), convened by El Foro Teatro Contemporáneo. The talks, as a whole, offered a diagnostic view of achievements and problems on the Mexican stage at the turn of the century; in particular, in his introduction, Rodolfo Obregón points out three major subjects: the actor’s status, the production conditions, and the public’s role. Includes are the perspectives of theater experts from various specialized areas and generations, testimonies by the critics and researchers Olga Harmony, Francisco Beverido, Luz Emilia Aguilar Zinser, Ximena Escalante, Fernando de Ita, Giovanna Recchia and José Ramón Alcántara; by the dramatists Juan Tovar, Gerardo Velásquez, Marco A. Petriz, Vicente Leñero and Luis Mario Moncada; by the actress Luisa Huertas; by the stage designers Mónica Raya and Marina Meza; by the directors Ignacio Flores de la Lama, Ludwik Margules, Hilda Valencia, Luis de Tavira and Jorge Vargas; and by the writers Fernando Solana Olivares and Juan Villoro were included.
